Vicky conquers the toughest ultra-marathon on Earth

Vicky Langston from Bromsgrove completed the toughest footrace on Earth, the Marathon des Sables and has raised over £1680 for the Primrose Hospice.

This truly grueling multi-stage adventure took Vicky through a mythical landscape into one of the world’s most inhospitable environments – the Sahara desert.

Over 6 days, running over 156 miles through endless dunes, over rocky jebels and across the white-hot salt plains Vicky had to be self-sufficient and had to carry all her own food and equipment.

With temperatures hitting 50 centigrade Vicky took on this incredible journey and conquered it completing the ultra-marathon in just under 40 hours finishing 37th female in a field of 1200 participants.

Vicky chose to support the Primrose Hospice because they supported her grandmother in her final stages of life. She wanted to give something back and say thank you for all of the dedication and empathy that her grandmother received.

Sponsorship came from friends and family with almost a quarter of the target reached coming from the Gym Shark, Webb Display and the Hinton Group. They backed Vicky all the way for which she is extremely grateful for.

Emma Williams, Fundraising Manager – Community Engagement comments “we really are completely overwhelmed by what Vicky has achieved. To complete an ultra-marathon in such an extreme environment is just simply amazing. We are truly grateful to Vicky for choosing to support us at the Primrose and can’t thank her enough. What an achievement.”
