Primrose Hospice joins regional campaign 'Love Your Local Hospice'

Primrose Hospice is joining with 15 other local hospices in the West Midlands area to launch a TV advertising campaign called ‘Love your Local Hospice’.
The aim is to raise awareness of the local services that hospices provide and try to dispel some of the myths and fear around the word ‘Hospice’. Primrose Hospice also hopes to raise some much needed funds to enable local people to continue to receive their services free of charge.
Helen Briscoe, Chief Executive of Primrose Hospice, says:
“We decided to join in this campaign to help raise awareness that as a local charity we are here for local people. Many people do not realise what the Hospice can offer to them and their families. When someone is told the news that they will not get better it can be a distressing and emotionally challenging time, not just for the patient but for their family and friends. As a hospice we provide many services for families as well as for the patient themselves. We find that people are often hesitant to ask for help from us as they fear the word ‘Hospice’.

The ‘Love your Local Hospice’ campaign is trying to make it clear that we provide a caring, supportive service that is individually tailored to the patient and their family. Many of the families who use our services say that they do not know how they would have coped without our support. ”

The advertising campaign will be shown on ITV starting on Valentine’s Day, Sunday February 14th. Helen goes on to say:

“When the world around you is full of love and romance and the shops are full of red hearts and teddy bears it can be very lonely for someone who is bereaved, or has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Our services are available all year and we recognise that special occasions such as Valentine’s Day, Christmas or birthdays can be especially hard.”

The TV advert is backed up by a Primrose postcard campaign suggesting people may like to make a small donation via their mobile phone. A minimum £2 donation has been suggested so it really is affordable for anyone.
Lindsey Higgins, Manager of Fundraising at Primrose Hospice says:

“We really appreciate our local supporters. Without their help we would not be able to offer the services that we do. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a very real difference to us. All we are asking for is £2 - less than the price of a Valentines card! Our local supporters keep the Hospice services going and our support keeps many families going. Over 900 local people received help from Primrose last year and they would really appreciate it if you could show that you really do ‘Love your Local Hospice’!”
