Lights Of Love

October - December

Remember your loved ones this Christmas time and together we’ll light up the darkness with love.

Make a tangible act of remembrance for your loved one by dedicating a light in their name. Anyone who has ever felt the grief of a bereavement can remember their special people with Primrose Hospice’s Lights of Love, whether they received our care or not, young or old, local or far away.

Remembering “Turbo”

For many, Christmas is a season of joy and celebration. For one family in Redditch, it has also become a time of remembrance. Let us introduce Megan to tell you about her Dad, Neil Turberfield, known affectionately as “Turbo” …

‘He wasn’t just my Dad, he was my best friend. We would always greet each other by saying ‘alright bestie’! Dad worked extremely hard to provide for us all and would spoil us rotten at Christmas. We had many family Christmas traditions, which no longer felt right without Dad by our side.

During the run up to Christmas 2024, our first without Dad, we were searching for a way to remember him and celebrate all of the Christmases we had enjoyed together.’

It was during this difficult time that the family discovered Primrose Hospice’s Lights of Love campaign.

‘As a family we have learnt to not replace our memories but to create new memories together and Lights of Love has enabled us to start a new tradition as a family, where we still feel close to Dad. As we stand at the tree in Redditch, we take a moment to remember all the mischief Dad got up to at Christmas and it’s a chance to stop and remember all of the treasured memories we made together.

Primrose has been an invaluable part of our family’s grief journey, they have helped my son Jaxon, in particular understand this extremely difficult time in his life. They have made our grief feel heard and have helped normalise our emotions around losing the king of the family. Making a donation to Lights of Love to have Dad’s name displayed is a way for us as a family to give back, and we were pleased to see our friends and family also support the cause after I reached out to them on Facebook.’

We take great pride in displaying our community’s tributes and while it is heart-breaking to see the list of names grow from year to year, there is great comfort in knowing that your loved ones are still remembered. There are a few elements of the campaign which are dear to us; the familiar names and the cherished photographs on the website; but most of all, multiple dedications made to the same person show just how many lives that person touched and how much they are missed.

As sad as it is to see new additions to the displays such as ‘Turbo’, these tributes stand as powerful reminders of just how deeply they are loved and how important it is, especially at this time of year, to pause and take time to remember those who brought light to our lives.

Dedicate a light and see it shine bright

Each twinkling light represents a life loved and will remain lit throughout the festive period. Every name is displayed between November and January around our trees in Bromsgrove and Redditch. Once we have received your donation your personalised Lights of Love card will be posted to you for you to display and keep at home. This will include information about where your dedications are located.

Digital Tribute Page

Each tribute made will appear on our beautiful Lights of Love digital tribute page on the Primrose website, creating a collective tribute to all those who have “lit up” your lives. This page is a very special place where you can share heartfelt personal messages expressing love and remembrance; you can even add photographs. These dedications are accessible to everyone, regardless of how far away they may live. Click here to see all the tributes made so far.
