Carers Week 10th - 16th June

This week is Carers Week 2013 - Monday 10th to Sunday 16th June.

It is such an important week and a UK-wide annual awareness campaign aimed to improve the lives of carers and the people that they care for. This is done by raising awareness of the role of a carer through national, regional and local media, encouraging people to participate.

Helping people identify themselves as carers so that they can access the support and advice that they may need. It can become quite a lonely world. We want to celebrate the work the UK's 6.5 million carers make to the people they are caring for and in their communities.

Carers Week will highlight the challenges carers face and help campaign for better funding for services and support.

This year, the theme for Carers Week is "Prepared to Care". Each day at least 6,000 people start caring. This has a huge impact on their lives - it takes time, energy, money and can sometimes leave you feeling extremely isolated.

"Prepared to Care" will focus on how the UK's carer population cope and how effectively the Government is supporting them and whether it is ready to carry on supporting the growing numbers. It will also help those already caring to make sure that they are accessing all the practical and emotional support they need to look after themselves aswell.

Here at Primrose Hospice, we would like to invite carers for tea and cake on Friday 14th June from 2pm to 4pm at the Day Hospice on St Godwald's Road. It is a chance for you to meet other carers in your position and to chat to our lovely staff.
