Board Report - Monday 1st June 2015

We were delighted to welcome two new Trustees to the board this month. Sam Carter, who is already a volunteer in day hospice and brings corporate events skills to the board and Jo Baldwin, who brings an accountancy background to support the board in understanding the work of the Finance and Income Generation team.

Keith Judson, the hospice Chaplin, came to explain the work he has been doing over the past few months and discussed some ideas for the future. It was a very helpful and worthwhile opportunity for the board to see the impact of his role on patient and family care.

Amanda Kimpton, one of the Trustees, who works for the Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, gave an update of the role of Alliance Boards and GP Federations which are part of NHS England 5 Year Forward View and the possible implications for the hospice.

As usual the Chair and CEO gave their report from the last two months. The Chairs and CEOs of the Worcestershire Hospices are looking to start some regular meetings to maximize how we work together. There were also reports from Finance, Fundraising, Shops, Care and Volunteers all helping the board to identify areas of challenges and areas of progress occurring within the hospice.

In Care the board were very pleased to see how well the Quality Accounts had been received at HOSC who were very impressed by the range of services Primrose offers.

The volunteer report explained some of the new roles that have been developed, we now have over 400 volunteers working at all areas across the hospice for example in shops, day hospice and family support as well as finance, kitchens, fundraising and trustees. We could not function without the dedication and support of our volunteers.

And we were delighted that the end of year financial situation was better than initially anticipated and that the audit had all gone well and will be approved at the AGM in August.

It was a very positive and up-beat meeting as all of the trustees felt confident that the hospice staff and volunteers are doing a most amazing job for the patients and their families and friends. As always if anyone has any suggestions or comments to make to the board please do so either through a member of the SMT or directly to me.
